Where does this come from in baseball ?? I get it in playing cards .. but, I can't get it to fit in baseball.

When I played baseball in school, and now in softball raking usually meant someone was hitting the ball very well.
No idea where it came from, but I've heard that term for hitting great for at least 20 years...
example:
Joey is just raking it.. He's hit a home run in every game this week.

I figured that's what it meant .. just trying to figure out the logic or even origin. Doesn't fit to me haha.

Beats me...it might mean that a player is hitting so well, it's almost as if he's swinging a rake up there (meaning his bat seems to make solid contact with anything around the plate). Short of that, I can't think of any other literal baseball analogies.

I thought it meant driving in runners.

This is one of those things I really don't understand and I played baseball through college. Another thing that I don't understand is when that stupid music plays and the crowd yells, "CHARGE!!" Charge what?
