I had a question playing college board game. In the NFLa player can advance a recovered fumble (offense or defense player) but in NCAA college football any fumble can't be advanced past the point of recovery correct? Or ha sit been changed to be like the NFL rule? I couldn't remember.

I believe it can be advanced unless it is fourth down in college.

Okay I just looked it up. On downs 1-3 if Team A fumbles, any member on Team A can advance a fumble. If it is intentionally fumbled forward there can be a penalty on A for illegal batting.

On 4th down if Team A fumbles, only the Fumbler is allowed to advance the fumbled ball.

Also in the NCAA if a player fumbles and the ball goes forward and out of bounds, the ball is brought back to the point where it was fumble as far as forward progress goes.

So is this for the NCAA or NFL?

So, basically in college football if a team fumbles and the defense recovers can they advance the ball or not?

I'm pretty sure the defense can always advance a recovered fumble, in both NFL and NCAA.

Defense can always advance a fumble...but not a muff (punt).

Thanks I thought in college the d couldn't advance a fumble at least in the past.

I can imagine 4th down plays in those "too far to placekick, too close to punt" situations. Teams would run a play, and instead of allowing themselves to be tackled, they'd just lateral/fumble the ball nonstop like rugby. If the defense couldn't advance it, there'd be no reason not to risk a turnover. It's be hilarious. I think that the NCAA should put this rule in.
