They beat a tough Panama team in penalty kicks. The win automatically gets them into the next Confederations Cup.

Is the Confederations Cup then a "champions league" of all the regional tournament winners? (Euro Championships, Copa America, OFC Nations Cup, ect)? In the last tourney, S. America sent two teams, how did they get two teams in?

Brazil won the World Cup, I'm assuming that is one of them. Argentina might have won the South American cup. Not sure what it's called. I think the Copa Libradores is just the top Central and South American clubs, not national teams.

The COMEnBOL Championship is called the Copa America

Not sure how the tournament works really, but you could be right. Someone needs to open up their FM and look into the past games...;)

That's probably not the best way to figure it out, because FIFA seems to be making up the rules for these extra international tournaments as they go along. :p

Noting Mr. Wednesday's likely correct point that FIFA may well change the rules, it appears from my FM game that the Confederations Cup is held every two years. So the U.S. will be in the next one in 2007.

Actually, the next Confed Cup will not be until 2009. The 2007 Gold Cup will determine CONCACAF's entry into that tournament.

Shouldn't even have gone to penalty kicks.... but it really could've gone either way in the first 120'. Both teams missed what were essentially tap-ins... the US should've been up 2-0 before the final minutes, but they looked horrible late and in extra time.

They ought to move the Gold Cup and Copa America to every 4 years. Then have a cycle like this:

Year 1: World Cup
Year 2: Gold Cup (CONCACAF Only)
Year 3: Copa America (CONMEBOL Only)
Year 4: Western Hemisphere Cup

Western Hemisphere Cup would be sweet. 6 entries from CONCACAF, 8 entries from CONMEBOL. Two CONCACAF/CONMEBOL playoffs for the last two spots. Confederations Cup participants exempt from WHC qualifying.

I wish I knew how to fiddle with the FM editor. I'd make it happen.

I saw it on I think Telemundo. A good game. Too bad ESPN opted for Womens Soccer.

So is it even possible to edit competitions in FM to the degree I'd like?

Nope, not yet at least.
