Anheuser-Busch buys Cardinals stadium naming rights
JIM SALTER
Associated Press
ST. LOUIS - Brewer Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc. has secured the naming rights for the St. Louis Cardinals' new stadium, meaning the city will have a new ball park with a familiar name: Busch Stadium.
Cardinals president Mark Lamping and Anheuser-Busch executive Tony Ponturo announced the 20-year deal at a news conference Wednesday at the current stadium.
It is not clear how much Anheuser-Busch will pay for the naming rights.
The new stadium is scheduled to open in 2006 and cost about $387 million. The new downtown stadium, with a capacity of 46,000, will occupy space overlapping and just south of the current stadium.
It will be the third home of the Cardinals since Sportsman's Park opened in 1920; all three have been called Busch Stadium. Sportsman's Park became Busch Stadium in 1954, when Anheuser-Busch purchased the team, and the name continued when the current Busch Stadium opened in 1966.
Anheuser-Busch bought the Cardinals before the 1954 season and sold the team before the 1996 season.
A naming rights agreement was part of the Cardinals' plan to repay the $200 million in bonds sold related to the construction of the ballpark. The team paid $90 million toward the ball park, and the rest of the funding is through tax relief from the state, city and St. Louis County.

This is Good news! The only thing better is if they could do one of those combo things, like Musial Field at Busch Stadium.

That's ok, I'm not into fancy beers anyway, I'll take a ice cold budweiser and a Cardinal game anyday.

Personally i dont have a problem with the Arena names being sponsored...as long as it fits and really doesnt sound lame.
I mean locally, here in Michigan you have Comerica Park. not bad, not weird
Ford Field, makes sense.
See what i mean?
