View Full Version : Computer Shopper vs Maximum PC

Anyone happen to know how many pages of content each magazine has? :confused: I'm considering a subscription, and was trying to figure out which features more content, etc...

If memory serves me correctly, Computer Shopper was a pretty hefty book. Is this the case for Maximum PC?

computer shopper is a book full of ads, and the content it does have is mostly fluff. If you're talking about a subscription for a serious PC magazine, I would strongly recommend MaximumPC over Computer Shopper.

I'm with Yabanci - I didn't realize there was ANY substance to Computer Shopper.

Maximum PC is one of my favorite subscriptions.

is Maximum PC a rather thick book? Or your standard fare magazine of 30-50 pages? I'm curious as to whether or not a subscription would fit properly in my mailbox.

Computer Shopper was really good before the internet was really in full force and you enjoyed building your own PC. It had all those mom & pop stores that sell hardware on low margin because they have no overhead.

Now you can just go to a site like Pricewatch.com and get the same information.

Maximum PC is actually pretty thin (as far as pages go) but the mag comes with a CD in it which may make it difficult to get in your box (no Fritzing please).

Of course you may be able to get it without the CD.

Ahh. What exactly does this CD contain? All issues come with a CD?

if you're buying the subscription, you can get it with or without the CD. Every issue comes with a CD. The CD contains demos, utilities, shareware, the benchmarks they use, etc. I used to have a subscription back when it was called "Boot" and for a couple years after the name change. It was the only computer magazine I found worth reading, and the CD was often quite useful back before broadband internet access.
