Another CM 03/04 Thread

I recently bought Championship Manager 03/04 because of all the positive feedback the game always gets both here and on other game sites. It looks like a lot of fun but the problem is: I don't know crap about Football/Soccer beyond a bunch of guys kicking a ball into a net.
Since there seems to quite a few knowledgeable CM players here on this board is there anyone that can give me some pointers on the fundamentals of the game so the learning curve isn't quite so steep for me?

I wrote a hints and tips file which some kind soul pasted into a thread here last week (someone much cleverer than me will hopefully post a link to it ... please?).

Apart from that there are lots of unofficial sites kicking around which contain hints and tips (thedugout.net is probably the busiest of them and also contains links to various other unofficial sites).

To be honest though I'd personally suggest you just give it a go, pick a small side with a relatively patient board of directors (say Stevenage or Brighton) and give things a whirl .... you might surprise yourself and imho half of the fun is in the discovery of things ;)

PS. If you pick Brighton don't sell Zamora for less than £2m he's a brilliant player and very loyal/professional - don't sell him unless you seriouosly need the money and know what you're spending it on in advance (we've sold him irl now and while Leon Knight (his replacement - Chelsea reserve in 03-04 original data) is a very good player, he's not quite up to Zamora's standard imho).

Then where it says "Find all posts by Marc Vaughn" or some such nonsense, click on it. It's amazing, but it really DOES show posts by said poster, not links to sites about colossal squids like you'd expect. I know it's amazing, but it's true. Then, simply scroll down until you find the post you were looking for. ;)

(although I do tend to like reading about colossal squids ;) )
