Help!!! CD Recorder isn't working

I'm trying to "back up" some CDs using a Philips CDR765 dual deck stand alone CD recorder. When I try to initialize the CD, it tells me "no OCR" and then won't initialize. A spindle of 50 CDRs yielded only 12 that worked. I'm using the right kind of CDRs (music only). I've done this many times before, so it isn't me. My father-in-law cleaned it out, so dust isn't the problem. Any ideas? I have to figure this out in the next few days so that my wife can "back up" more of her family's favorite CDs.

The problem is that you got a Phillips. Mine died after a year.

Well, this one has lasted 4 years now. <sigh> This was my late mother's. I hate to get rid of it. Any other advice that might help me delay the inevitable for a little while longer?
